About me
I am Miguel López-Pérez, a lecturer at the University of Granada.
Research
I do research in the methodology of machine learning and its applications (mainly) to the medical imaging domain, with wide experience in computational pathology and probabilistic models. I am interested in topics related to:
- Fairness
- Crowdsourcing
- Generative models
- Uncertainty quantification
- Explainability
- Vision Language Models
I am really open to new collaborations. If you have any idea or are motivated to conduct a project related to these interests, reach me out!
About
I graduated in mathematics (2017) and earned a master’s degree in data science (2018), both at the University of Granada (UGR). My PhD, supervised by Prof. Rafael Molina (UGR) and Prof. Aggelos Katsaggelos (Northwestern University, NWU), was entitled “Probabilistic Methods for Image and Signal Classification. Applications to Medicine and Volcanology” (2022). As part of it, I spent three months visiting NWU, working with Prof. Katsaggelos and Dr. Lee Cooper on crowdsourcing and digital pathology.
I then spent a year as a postdoc at UGR before being awarded the prestigious Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral fellowship, which I carried out at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) under Prof. Valery Naranjo, working on trustworthy AI for digital pathology. During this fellowship, I also won a competitive José Castillejo grant to visit the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), where I worked with Prof. Aasa Feragen and Prof. Søren Hauberg on uncertainty quantification and fairness in medical imaging.
